Lambourn trainer sends one runner on a 768-mile round trip to Ayr on Monday 🚛

The cost of fuel is spiralling out of control and vastly increasing trainer’s travel costs. With that in mind, it may well prove significant that Archie Watson sends one runner up to Ayr on Monday from his Lambourn base. This is a significant trip of 384 miles each way which is likely to prove expensive. It’s therefore unlikely that this runner is sent up to Scotland without connections being confident of a big run. Throne Hall (9-4, William Hill) wasn’t beaten far in a competitive race at York last time. The handicapper responded by putting the five-year-old up 3lb. This looks a little on the harsh side but if he turns up in the same form, a win could be on the cards.

Hollie Doyle takes the ride which can only be a good thing and he tries a new trip for the first time. His attempts at 1m6f didn’t go well but that was probably more down to his three-figure rating than the trip. As the horse stays 1m4f well, it’s difficult to imagine this 1m5f trip being an issue.

Throne Hall’s best form is his neck second at York’s Ebor meeting in August. That second came off a mark of 98 so he looks dangerous here off 3lb lower than that.
