Kevin Stott heads over to Ireland for his first ever ride at Dundalk on Friday

Kevin Stott had a tumultuous year in 2023 but overall you would say he had a good one. He rode 93 winners and achieved a coveted Royal Ascot victory. Stott has never ridden at Dundalk before but that could change on Friday as he’s set to ride one for Joseph O’Brien. Friday’s Dundalk card is also the scene of Wayne Lordan’s comeback ride, after eight months out with a serious injury. 6.45 Dundalk

Cow Chico is likely to be a popular choice in this maiden over an extended 1m2f. Joseph O’Brien’s filly found only her stablemate too good when making her debut over course and distance last month. It was a cracking effort and the filly showed plenty of promise.

There’s clearly room for improvement as she displayed signs of greenness on the run-in and would have learnt plenty from the experience. With this in mind, she’s entitled to take a big step forward here and will prove very hard to beat if doing so. Confidence must be high to warrant Stott coming over for the ride and she could be one to watch.

7.15 Dundalk

It’s good to see Wayne Lordan back after a lengthy absence and a victorious return to the saddle shouldn’t be ruled out. He goes to Dundalk to ride Navy Seal, who is Aidan O’Brien’s second string according to the jockey bookings, but a close look at the pair’s form would suggest that there isn’t a great deal between them.

This son of Dubawi will probably want further in time, upon looking at his pedigree, but a mile should be fine in this company. Far from disgraced when fifth in a French Group 1 last time out, he could be the play at these prices.
