Key runners

3. Flooring Porter

A top-class hurdler on his day, he’s a two-time Stayers’ Hurdle winner who is yet to blossom over the larger obstacles. Stamina is no issue but there’s some sharper jumpers in opposition.

13. Perceval Legallois

This horse tends to promise more than he delivers but was far from disgraced in the Galway Plate. Improvement will be needed however and he could probably use some help from the handicapper.

4. Zanahiyr

Very useful over hurdles, he has produced a fair level of form over the larger obstacles too. It was a great effort when third in the Galway Plate and he tries three miles for the first time here.

2. The Real Whacker

Patrick Neville’s stable star won the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2023. He drops into handicap company here and a mark of 155 doesn’t look ridiculous.

9. Amirite

Henry de Bromhead’s eight-year-old is often popular in these staying handicap chases but it’s been a long time since he last won and others appeal more as a result.

7. Duffle Coat

One of five runners for Gordon Elliott, a repeat of his rock-solid second in the Galway Plate would give him a solid chance.

11. Solitary Man

Enda Bolger’s representative got the better of Duffle Coat in a Killarney novice in May and looks very interesting on his first start in a handicap chase.

20. Thecompanysergeant (reserve)

He needs a couple to come out in order to get a run but he’s got some more than reasonable form as a novice chaser and isn’t discounted.

Free tip

Solitary Man won a Listed race as a novice hurdler and has made more than satisfactory start to his chasing career. Making his first start in a handicap chase, he’s surely unexposed and is therefore susceptible to significant improvement.

33/1 outsider to watch

Hurricane Georgie has been in good form this summer, particularly when easily dispatching the useful Easy Game at Galway in August. Gordon Elliott’s mare has had a bit of a break now and she can make her presence felt here.
