Stats can be a big help when trying to pick out winners so we like to keep an eye out for particularly good strong ones. We’ve found one at Fontwell on Tuesday, where one jockey has a strike-rate of 67 per cent so far this season.
The jockey in question has ridden two winners from just three rides and is set to take just one ride at the track on Tuesday, for 14-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Freddie Gingell is still claiming 3lb but that won’t be the case for much longer if he continues on his current trajectory. He rides Huelgoat for Paul Nicholls and the seven-year-old comfortably dispatched Yellow Car, who is in opposition once again here, by five lengths when last seen. His rival is 5lb better off this time around but one would imagine that’s unlikely to be enough.
A five-time winner over fences, Huelgoat has benefitted from the return to hurdles and connections have taken full advantage of his novice status.
The official ratings suggest that Olly Murphy’s Prince Imperial is the one to beat after winning a maiden hurdle here by 20 lengths. That being said, his hurdles form up until that point was pretty underwhelming and perhaps Huelgoat can oblige under a double penalty.
Gingell is in fine form recently too, currently operating at a strike-rate of 40 per cent in the last fortnight. This is courtesy of two winners from just five rides and the young rider will be eager to add more successes to his tally. Nicholls is winless from four runners in the last two weeks but you can never rule him out.
