Ben Curtis rode 170 horses to victory in 2020 in what turned out to be an incredible season for him. It was by far his best season on record and he has started 2021 in similar fashion. From just six rides at Southwell in 2021 to date, he has ridden four winners. If you are looking for a jockey to follow on the Flat this coming year, he isn’t a bad shout at all. Ben will ride just two horses at Southwell racecourse on Friday and both have to be of serious interest. Take a look at them below.
Ben Curtis operates at an incredible 20-per-cent strike rate around Southwell. His first ride at the track on Friday will be Deep Impression for Mark Johnston. His yard are also in scintillating form, with five winners from his last eight runners sent to post. This Footstepsinthesand filly is making her fibresand debut but her pedigree gives us hope that she will enjoy the surface. A winner at Beverley back in June, she found Kempton on the sharp side last time out. This much stiffer track will be stamina-sapping and she is definitely one to consider.
Another runner making its fibresand debut, Sea The Moon filly Luna Wish takes her chance over seven furlongs. George Margarson wouldn’t book Ben just for the fun of it so one would think they think the horse will run a big race. She finished runner-up at Wolverhampton when last seen and runs off the same mark here. A mile is probably her best trip but the seven around here is extremely stiff so it could suit her. She could be a nice each way play at a decent price.
