Taunton has been kind to Harry Cobden in recent years and he has ridden plenty of winners there. In the last five seasons he has 48 winners from 141 rides, giving him a very healthy strike-rate of 34 per cent. He looks like the man to follow at the Somerset track on Thursday, as he has a very eye-catching book of rides. Here we take a look at each of his five rides and assess their chances of coming out on top. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Detroit Bay was far from disgraced when finishing fourth on debut at Wincanton last month. Jimmy Frost’s three-year-old ran well for a long way before running out of gas. If he can improve for the run, a big performance could well be on the cards.
Knock Off Soxs won a point-to-point at Trebudannon before joining Kayley Woollacott and he ran a nice race to finish second here on his first start under rules. Comfortably clear of the third that day, it’s possible that a similar effort will be enough this time around.
Below the Radar struggled a bit last season but ran well to finish second at Ayr in April. It was a fair effort on seasonal debut at Kempton last month and he’s expected to improve for the run. Paul Nicholls’ horses tend to improve significantly for the switch to fences.
Just A Rose looked like a smart prospect when winning a course and distance maiden hurdle by 26 lengths on stable debut so it’s no surprise that connections went to Cheltenham after that. Her jumping let her down that day but this is much easier and she has had wind surgery over the summer.
Nigel Hawke’s Square Du Roule got off the mark over an extended 2m5f at Exeter when last seen and Cobden was on board that day too. The five-year-old has been raised 6lb since so life will be harder but he could build on that success here and is trying three miles for the first time.
