Jamie Codd thinks this horse won’t be out of the first three in the Gold Cup 🏆 😮

Jamie Codd

Brian Sheerin of the Racing Post did a fantastic interview with the highly-regarded jockey Jamie Codd, who always gives a very open and honest assessment in his interviews. Members can read the interview in full here and if you are not a member, it is well worth signing up if you are a devout horse racing fan. One quote of Codd’s in particular caught my eye and we will speak more about it below.

Galvin for the Gold Cup?

Gordon Elliott’s Galvin is now a general 5-1 with the bookmakers for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Jamie Codd will do backers’ confidence the world of good with his recent quote.

Codd said: “I can’t see a scenario where Galvin does not at least make the frame in the Gold Cup. He’s beaten a race-fit A Plus Tard in the Savills Chase and I have to say I thought Davy Russell gave him a brilliant ride on the day.

I wasn’t sure if Galvin was a Gold Cup horse after Down Royal but he proved he was at Leopardstown. I just felt he was fit going to Down Royal, and possibly ahead of the curve, but he has kept on improving and he looks as though he will go to the Gold Cup with a live chance. He has course form, is tough and hardy and I can see him running a big race.’

The current favourite for the big race is Henry de Bromhead’s A Plus Tard so if the form book is to be believed, he has nothing to be afraid of. Is Galvin the next big superstar in waiting? He may well be.
