It’s Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday and there are no fewer than four Group 1s to look forward to. With such quality action, it’s sure to be a fascinating day. We’ve selected three outsiders at outrageous prices for you to consider. These include a monster 150-1 shot which also happens to be our Nap of the Day. All six races from Ascot will be live on ITV and you can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Maxident (150-1, bet365) is an interesting contender here and has had just four starts to date. Dominic Ffrench Davis’ charge obliterated the opposition, when winning by 50 lengths on his debut. That win came on heavy ground so he should appreciate the testing conditions here. Obviously he needs to find plenty of improvement if he’s to feature but the best is yet to come and the step up in trip will suit. This unexposed three-year-old is also our Nap of the Day.
Point Lonsdale (50-1, Boylesports) may have been overlooked here and he ran much better at Leopardstown last time out than his finishing position suggests. It was a hot race and he was less than four lengths behind the winner, on unsuitably quick ground. This horse is unbeaten in four starts on soft and heavy ground, which means conditions will be ideal for him. Aidan O’Brien runners should never be written off and this is a massive price.
The Gatekeeper (50-1, bet365) is another one whose price isn’t an accurate reflection of their chances. Charlie Johnston’s charge was awarded a race by the stewards at Goodwood in August. The ground was very testing that day and conditions should be similar here. Racing off just a 2lb higher mark, he should be there or thereabouts.
