ITV Outsiders: Aidan O’Brien’s runner overpriced at 25/1 for York’s Thursday showpiece

It’s Day 2 of York’s Ebor Festival on Thursday and the big race of the day is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks. The first five races will be live on ITV so we’ve selected four outsiders at massive odds that can outrun their prices. These include a potentially overpriced Aidan O’Brien-trained runner in the main event. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.50 York

Unspoken Love (50/1, bet365) was a comfortable winner of a valuable Pontefract novice on her penultimate start and the form has received a boost since, with the third winning next time. It’s easy to forgive a somewhat disappointing effort in France last time and these odds perhaps aren’t an accurate reflection of her chances.

2.25 York

High On Hope (40/1, Paddy Power) is trained by Tom Dascombe and he’s always a trainer to follow in sales races such as this. Dascombe won the race back in 2021 and this gelded son of Sergei Prokofiev has shown some promise in four starts thus far. First-time cheekpieces could do the trick and it would be unwise to rule out a big run.

3.00 York

Catch The Paddy (50/1, bet365) was second to Elnajmm off this mark on his last start over a mile at Newcastle in June. He has a 14lb weight swing in his favour this time around and is entitled to go very close on that evidence. His form is very hit and miss but trainer Kevin Ryan is always one to watch at York and better is expected with that in mind.

3.35 York

Port Fairy (25/1, William Hill) is a smart filly on her day and she was a game winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. It’s hard to know what went wrong in the Irish Oaks but that bitterly disappointing run was too bad to be true. Aidan O’Brien is the best around at getting horses to bounce back and this daughter of Australia is capable of at least making the frame here.
