ITV Outsiders: 40-1 shot to shock them all in the Paddy Power Gold Cup ⚡

Saturday marks Day 2 of Cheltenham‘s three-day November meeting. ITV will be showing four races live from Prestbury Park. The big race of the day is the Paddy Power Gold Cup and Liam Bramall has selected a massive 40-1 shot. Two more outsiders have been picked out for your consideration at 25-1 and 20-1. It should be a fascinating day of action with plenty of each way opportunities. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.20 Cheltenham

Storm Control (40-1, Boylesports) could be massively overpriced for the big race of the day. There’s one piece of form in particular that holds the key to his chances. Kerry Lee’s gelding looked like the winner of the Skybet Chase at Doncaster in January before emptying out on the run in. That effort came off a mark of 137 and his current rating is 3lb lower. His trainer has previous in this race, winning it back in 2019 with a 14-1 shot owned by the same connections. The extended 2m4f should suit and he’ll be much fitter than at Stratford last time.

2.55 Cheltenham

Valentino (25-1, bet365) has been progressive of late and was narrowly denied at Newton Abbot over an extended 3m2f last time out. Showed plenty of stamina on that occasion and it’s unlikely that this lad will be outstayed at the finish. The ratings suggest he has plenty to find but there is scope for further progression. Capable of running a huge race despite being out of the handicap.

3.30 Cheltenham

Downtown Queen (20-1, bet365) is a fascinating raider from the de Bromhead yard. Unexposed in handicaps, she fell five out on handicap debut at Listowel last time and it was too early to tell if she would have featured. A maiden and novice winner, this mark of 123 is very appealing and it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her yet. An unknown quantity that could run a huge race here.
