We have a rare mid-week treat on our hands, with Chester‘s three-day May Festival taking place. ITV‘s cameras are back out and they will be televising the first five races on the card. Day 1’s feature races are the Group 3 Chester Vase and the Listed Cheshire Oaks. We’ve got a 25/1 tip for the former and two other outsiders that can outrun their odds on Wednesday. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Billy Webster (14/1, Paddy Power) is very lightly raced and the switch to handicaps has done him the world of good. All three of his wins have come over 5f and he’ll need to prove his stamina but there are few sharper tracks than Chester, which should give him every chance. It was a fair effort when fifth off this mark at Lingfield and he should be more competitive than these odds suggest.
Seaward (20/1, Paddy Power) didn’t get the smoothest of passages when a staying on fourth on her debut at Newmarket over 7f in August. Ralph Beckett’s filly improved for the step up to a mile when getting off the mark at Ascot next time and middle-distances are likely to suit this year on that evidence. She’ll need to improve on her performance in the Fillies’ Mile but there should be more to come at three.
Golden West (25/1, bet365) was unbeaten as a juvenile and won nicely under a penalty at Epsom on his second start. That form has received a boost since as the third has placed a couple of times in Listed company. Significant improvement will be required on the evidence of his below-par effort in a Group 3 at Longchamp on seasonal debut but he can be forgiven for that. Karl Burke’s colt appeared to need the run and we haven’t seen the best of him yet.
