There’s also one race from Newbury to look forward to and we have you covered. Silent Age (25/1, bet365) has been struggling with his mark since switching to handicaps but the handicapper is beginning to respond. It’s therefore only a matter of time until he starts winning races again. His impressive novice success under a penalty when trained by Charlie Appleby suggests he could be approaching a nice mark and he was a narrowly beaten fourth in a Wolverhampton handicap for current connections in March. It’s by no means out of the question that he makes the frame here.

Zain Blue (16/1, bet365) looked badly in need of the run when below-par on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket last month and better is expected this time around. Currently rated just 2lb higher than when scoring here over a mile last term, the step up in trip could encourage further improvement.

4.15 York

Lexington Blitz (20/1, bet365) makes his handicap debut here and his best juvenile form suggests an opening mark of 88 isn’t outrageous. Robert Cowell’s colt bolted up under a penalty at Chepstow in September. The form is a bit of a mixed bag but the third has won five times since. Listed level wasn’t for him up at Ayr next time but the drop in grade will be a massive help.
