Irish trainer Mark Fahey has only had a handful of runners in Britain, over both codes, but is yet to have one at Newcastle. That looks set to change on Tuesday however as he’s sending two runners over. Fahey has a strike-rate of 25 per cent with his Flat runners in Britain, landing two winners from eight runners. We’re going to take a look the chances of both horses and whether or not the trip will be a profitable one. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Daonethatgotaway returned to form with a solid third over a mile at Dundalk last month and he should be competitive off the same mark once again. Fahey’s five-year-old has won twice and placed six times in 12 starts on the all-weather, which suggests he runs his race more often than not.
Last victorious off a 3lb lower mark at Dundalk in January, he’s entitled to be competitive here, provided the drop in trip isn’t an issue. Apprentice jockey Reese Holohan also heads over to take the ride and his 7lb claim will surely come in handy.
Mount Ruapehu has run really well on both all-weather starts to date and that definitely bodes well. The son of Invincible Spirit comfortably won a Dundalk handicap off 69 back in January 2024 and wasn’t beaten far when fourth off 75 at the same track a couple of months later.
It was a fair effort when fourth over 5f at Down Royal on his penultimate start and a return to that form would give him every chance, especially as the five-year-old is currently on a 3lb lower mark.
