Irish trainer sends one runner over for Carlisle’s feature race on Wednesday ⛴️

Irish trainer Johnny Murtagh has had plenty of success since joining the training ranks. Murtagh has had six runners at Carlisle during his career and 100 per cent of them have finished in the first three. Three of those have won, giving him an excellent 50 per cent strike-rate.

The County Kildare-based trainer sends one runner over to Carlisle on Wednesday for the feature race of the day at 4.50, the Listed Eternal Stakes. It’s difficult to overlook Murtagh’s strike-rate and his runner has to go under consideration. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.50 Carlisle

Lady Onyx (4-1, William Hill) has had just two career starts so far. She got off the mark on debut over this trip at Gowran on debut last month, although it has to be noted that the form of that race hasn’t worked out well so far. Nevertheless, she won nicely and it was a good debut performance.

No stranger to these shores, she came over to Musselburgh earlier this month for a similar Listed event and finished third. She put in a solid performance on just her second start and significantly up in grade. The front two that day are both rated 100+ and she would have learnt plenty from the experience. Ben Curtis is set to take the ride and he’s ridden plenty of winners this season.

Her biggest danger here looks likely to be John & Thady Gosden’s Ceanna, who won a handicap by nine lengths on her last start. Lady Onyx will need to improve a bit to get her head in front but she’s lightly raced and the best should be yet to come.
