Irish jockey in focus – Kevin Sexton has his first ever ride at Worcester on Wednesday
A national hunt card at Worcester Racecourse on Wednesday has been made all the more interesting with the fact Irish jockey Kevin Sexton travels across the Irish Sea to take the ride on one horse at the track. Let’s take a look at his chances below.
4.33 Worcester
Dual-purpose trainer Tony Carroll, although certainly more well known for his Flat exploits, will run Init Together in the 2m novices’ handicap hurdle at Worcester, and Kevin Sexton is booked for the ride – his sole mount on the day.
The seven-year-old son of Poet’s Voice had spells in Ireland with Padraig Roche and Seamus Fahey and was winless for both handlers, but found a new lease of life after joining Carroll when winning his first four Flat starts on the bounce at the start of this year.
He is 0-8 since his last win in February, but caught the eye on his first hurdles start for this yard when runner-up over course and distance just a week ago. The winner just got away from him late on but he was finishing off really well.
Init Together can race from the same mark here and he looks well treated judged on both the pick of his Irish form and judged on his Flat mark. He loves a sound surface which he looks set to get and this is also a slight ease in grade so everything looks set for a massive run.
The likely danger could be Buxted Reel who is fairly unexposed in this sphere to date and was beaten only a couple of lengths when a close fourth at Market Rasen when last seen.
