Horse with form figures of 0096 backed into 9-1 from 40-1 on Saturday 🤔

There’s been a significant move for one runner at Wolverhampton on Saturday. It’s certainly an interesting one as the horse in question hasn’t been in the best of form. With form figures of 0096, the horse is fancied to return to form in a big way. Another factor to consider here is the fact that the horse also has to defy a 231-day absence. 7.30 Wolverhampton

Probe is the horse in question and he represents the Jennie Candlish yard. There’s one particularly interesting aspect of this gamble and that’s the fact that he is making his stable debut. It’s also noteworthy that he has been dropped immediately down to six furlongs for his new yard and been fitted with a hood for this excursion.

Previously trained by Dermot Weld in Ireland, he won a maiden at Killarney over a mile by seven lengths in May 2021. He followed that up with a two-length Rated Race win at Listowel in June of the same year. Things didn’t really go to plan after those back-to-back victories however and he wasn’t seen again for 315 days. Upon his return to racing last year, he failed to perform to the same level and was beaten by an accumulative distance of 37-and-a-half lengths in his four races since.

The British handicapper appears to have given him a chance for his new yard, allotting him a mark of 84. This is also his first start on an artificial surface, as all of his eight starts so far have come on turf. If he takes well to the surface, that could inspire a return to form. Certainly an interesting move, it’s hard to know what to expect from Probe here but the market is predicting a big run.
