Horse who won this Nottingham contest in 2019 & 2020 bids for a hat-trick on Wednesday

Saikung - Gerald Mosse

We have mentioned many times in the past that trainers are creatures of habit. So are horses, many run all of their best races at a certain track and Wednesday sees a runner in action at Nottingham that combines both. Bryan Smart has had four runners in this same sprint handicap in the last decade and three have won!

His runner in 2021 arrives in search of a hat-trick in this five furlong contest, winning this same race in both 2019 and 2020. We will also have horse racing tips from Punchestown, Wetherby, Bath and Kempton with Wednesday looking another day full of action.

4.25 Nottingham – Persimmon Homes Handicap

Wrenthorpe is the horse in question, a horse who loves his racing here at Nottingham. He has raced at this course five times, his form so far reading 12111. His win in this race last year came from a pound higher than he currently finds himself, with connections potentially saving him for an autumn campaign. As such, he arrives relatively fresh for this time of year.

He probably wouldn’t want to see the ground to dry out anymore than it already has, his very best form coming when the mud is flying. He did manage to win on good to firm ground in his youth, however, and has placed on both good and good to firm more recently so he is able to cope, for all that deep ground is ideal.

His yard have had a couple of winners recently from very limited runners so they are ticking over fine and their record in this race has to be noted, with the 2013 winner to their credit as well. Wrenthorpe has not been in much form so far in 2021, beating just three rivals combined in three starts but if he is going to bounce back to form, it will be at Nottingham.
