‘He’s too hard to ignore’ – 33-1 and 16-1 outsiders at Punchestown on Tuesday 🏇🏻

Day 1 of the Punchestown Festival takes place on Tuesday. There’s plenty of competitive action to sink your teeth into, as well as loads of runners and each-way opportunities. With this in mind, we’ve selected two outsiders at substantial prices who could outrun their odds. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Grand Roi (33-1, William Hill) didn’t take to chasing very well and that plan was scrapped after three disappointing efforts over the larger obstacles. He finished a modest ninth in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham last time out, off a mark of 144. Whilst this horse has plenty of form in graded races, he’s fairly lightly raced in handicaps and we probably haven’t seen the best of him in this sphere as of yet. An easy winner of Grade 2 over two miles in 2020, the drop back in trip here could prove fruitful. His gradual slide down the handicap makes him very interesting for this race and he’s due a return to form.

6.00 Punchestown

Brave Fortune (16-1, William Hill) cost €115,000 as a three-year-old which isn’t a small fee, especially for a National Hunt bred horse of that age. His dam is an unraced half-sister to two bumper winners and this suggests he should be well up to winning a bumper. The fact that he runs in this prestigious and valuable event is a significant vote of confidence from his trainer. Doyle is a shrewd trainer and he’s not likely to throw him in this race without a chance. Perhaps too hard to ignore, Brave Fortune could surprise a few here and run a huge race.
