Harry Cobden’s attempts to close the gap on injured title rival Sean Bowen have been scuppered by the weather recently. Southwell‘s National Hunt meeting on Wednesday has received the go ahead and he has three interesting rides. Cobden is just two away from 100 winners for the season. Now he’s on a title charge, he won’t want to leave here without any. We’ve combined them into a treble which should be interesting. Well Paid Solider (6-1, William Hill) put in a somewhat improved performance when third at Bangor over 2m7f last time out. She’s lightly raced in handicaps and has plenty of scope for further progress in this sphere. Neil Mulholland’s six-year-old faded on the run-in last time, suggesting the drop in trip here will be suitable. There’s more to come from her, especially off a 2lb lower mark.
My Gift To You (11-4, William Hill) was a comfortable winner over course and distance in July and has since gone on to score twice over fences. James Owen’s gelding has been consistent and won nicely off a 5lb lower mark at Fakenham last time out. The return to hurdles isn’t a concern and a big run should be on the cards once again.
Hobb’s Delight (9-2, Betfair) didn’t show a great deal in three starts in maiden and novice company but took a massive step forward when dead-heating for first on handicap debut at Fontwell last time out. The handicapper has pushed him up 3lb for that effort and it’s highly likely that there’s more to come.
