‘He’s got a Grade 1 in him’ – 50-1, 16-1 and 14-1 ITV Outsiders on Boxing Day 🎅

Clan Des Obeaux and Thistlecrack in the 2018 King George VI Chase at Kempton

Boxing Day is always a busy day for racing fans, with no fewer than 11 meetings across Britain and Ireland. The ITV cameras will be showing six races from Kempton, Aintree and Wetherby. We’ve selected three outsiders at substantial prices that can outrun their odds. These include a mammoth 50-1 shot in one of the four Grade 1 events. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.05 Aintree

Florida Dreams (14-1, Paddy Power) returns to the scene of his big win the Grade 2 bumper here at the Grand National meeting in April. Nicky Richards’ charge got off the mark over hurdles at the second time of asking when last seen. That victory came at Ayr by a narrow margin but further improvement is expected over hurdles and he deserves to take his chance in this company.

1.20 Kempton

Marble Sands (50-1, bet365) managed to get the better of Hermes Allen in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and finished stronger than his re-opposing rival. There’s certainly hope that the step up to three miles could suit and this price difference between Marble Sands and Hermes Allen is perhaps unwarranted. A big run from this lad would be no surprise at all.

2.30 Kempton

Hewick (16-1, bet365) is a talented horse and I can’t help but feel like he’s got a Grade 1 win in him. The King George has cut up somewhat and he only faces five rivals here. Shark Hanlon’s stable star will require the stiffest test of stamina possible but he’s more than capable of running a big race. It’s always a risk to underestimate this horse and he ran well for a long way in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
