Shark on Hewick’s next venture in France: “The race is absolutely perfect for him, he’s going to take some stopping in it,” Hanlon told the Racing Post on Friday morning.

“Let me tell you why: it’s almost three miles and two furlongs, for starters. That’s perfect for him. But the main thing is that they are three-quarter fences, the same sort of size as the ones he jumped when he won the American Grand National. He loved them out there and I think he’ll love them in France too.

“It doesn’t bother me if the ground is soft over there. On real deep ground over here the fences look huge to him because he’s not a big horse, but those size of ones will be fine for him.”

Asked who will partner Hewick in France, Hanlon replied: “Rachael Blackmore. I feel sorry for Jordan [Gainford] who is still out. He made the horse who he is but I’m very happy with my sub!”

Hewick really is a star to behold and it will be interesting to see what sort of price he will be for this race in France, a race that has been won by the Irish many times.
