‘He’s a crazy price given the trainers’ form’ – Outsiders for your Saturday bets

1.30 Kempton

Richard Hughes is the hottest trainer around at the moment and I’m surprised to see his Star Pupil (12/1) such a big price in the opening ITV race of the day, a novice contest over 6f. He was sent off a 6/1 chance for his debut around here over a mile, where he was only beaten four lengths into sixth. With the cobwebs blown away, it will be a surprise if we don’t see a much better showing down in trip given the form of the yard at present.

2.40 Kempton

It’s not too often you can get a big price on a William Buick mount on a Saturday but Ian Williams’ Duc De Kent (25/1) looks way too big at first glance. He ran well enough in a similar handicap when fifth at Wolverhampton over 1m4f latest, and the handicapper has dropped him 4lb. Second in a French Listed race nearly 12 months ago, he is starting to look well treated now.

3.15 Kempton

Olly Murphy is in good form over jumps and Fleurman (33/1) might be able to outrun his huge odds in this 2m handicap. He never went a yard at Lingfield last month which is a concern, but blinkers are applied for the first time which might spark him into life. Second to Rainbow Dreamer in a big stayers’ race at Newcastle last year, he’s well treated now on that form.
