‘He will not win’ – Paddy Brennan thinks odds-on superstar will get stuffed at Cheltenham

The Racing Post’s Peter Thomas attended a Cheltenham Festival preview night in Fulham and it was a night full of very strong opinions, with one view of Paddy Brennan’s in particular standing out!

‘He will not win’

Gold Cup-winning jockey Paddy Brennan is highly respected as a judge and mouths hit the floor in Fulham when he stated Constitution Hill cannot possibly win the Champion Hurdle. Yes, you heard that right. Nicky Henderson’s unbeaten superstar cannot possibly win the race!

Brennan stated: “He will not win” and left it at that. He has been very openly critical of Constitution Hill’s chance in the race for quite some time now. Liam Harrison was flabbergasted with his comment and responded: “Look people in the eye and say he won’t win. Kudos for trying, Paddy, but you’re just so wrong. He’s an absolute certainty, miles better than her, the best I’ve seen.”

Constitution Hill can be backed at around 8/13 if you shop around, while his nearest challenger in the market Brighterdaysahead can be backed at 9/4. Last year’s winner State Man is trading at around 11/2, and while it’s not yet known where Lossiemouth will line up, the mare is trading at 8/1 in places.

It is going to be a fascinating race tactically but one would think Brighterdaysahead will employ similar tactics to her last race when forcing a ridiculous pace from the off in a bid to try make it a proper test of stamina. Constitution Hill probably won’t let her get too far in front and will try to make his challenge approaching the last. It is going to be a belter.
