It’s finally here! Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival is now upon us and we have seven races to look forward to on Tuesday. The entire season has been building up to this so we’ve picked out four horses whose chances aren’t necessarily reflected by their odds.
These include a 40/1 shot in the first handicap of the four-day extravaganza. We’ll be providing free tips for every race at the Cheltenham Festival and our Day 1 selections are available to view here.
Tripoli Flyer (25/1, bet365) is one of just two British runners in the Supreme this year and he’s progressing into a smart novice hurdler. Fergal O’Brien’s six-year-old finished second in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree in April and he went one better in the same grade over hurdles at Kempton last month. Obviously he’ll need to find more to feature here but that’s far from out of the question and he could surprise a few.
Grandeur d’Ame (40/1, bet365) should arguably half his current price, on the evidence of his short-head second here on trials day. Alan King’s runner only just failed to catch Irish raider Moon D’Orange and he’s very interesting now trying 3m1f for the first time here. There’s plenty of stamina in his pedigree and a big run is anticipated.
Jetara (33/1, bet365) may have been unfairly overlooked here and whilst Lossiemouth’s appearance shakes things up, Jessica Harrington’s mare is entitled to run a big race. This daughter of Walk In The Park is going to want a stiff test of stamina and if it is one, she’s really going to thrive.
Slurricane (22/1, betfred) is an improving juvenile who also has experience in handicaps, having won a decent race at Punchestown in January. Total Look was back in third that day and he is a single-figure price. The British handicapper hasn’t been kind but he has closely matched form with several of the Irish runners and shouldn’t be dismissed.
