Bangor-on-Dee is one of Donald McCain’s local tracks but it is without doubt his favourite and most successful. The dual code trainer is having another terrific season over the jumps already, operating at a really healthy 24 per cent.
McCain amassed a staggering 155 winners last season over jumps which is mind boggling numbers but Bangor has been his most awarding track in the last five years. He has trained 76 winners here in that time from 330 runners, which is a yield of 23 per cent.
The yard send several horses to the Welsh track on Tuesday and it would be a huge surprise if he didn’t find the winner’s enclosure at least once. We have put his four best chances into a Lucky 15 below.
Abbie McCain will take the ride on Blakeney Point who is a very inconsistent horse, but he was narrowly denied here over 2m4f in July when last seen. The clock pointed to a good performance on the day and this step up in trip could suit.
Sweet Auburn was a very impressive winner of a Sedgefield bumper on debut last year on Boxing Day, albeit on heavy ground. The former winning pointer will get further in time but is a huge player here on second hurdling start if she can cut out the errors.
Zamond justified favouritism when scoring at Cartmel in July and this track should suit a prominent runner too so another big run should be on the cards. Only up 4lb in the weights so has a chance to follow up.
Genever Dragon nearly made all at Perth when second there in July when last seen, but this track should suit his riding style much better and he could be hard to peg back with similar tactics.
