There’s a substantial gamble underway at Wolverhampton on Monday morning. One runner was available at 14-1 on Sunday evening and that price quickly went. Sustained market support means the horse in question’s best price is currently just 9-2. This is a situation that could be worth keeping an eye on throughout the day. Red Walls (9-2, bet365) is the horse in question and there’s some evidence in the form book which would support this big gamble. Lisa Williamson’s gelding was probably priced up initially on the form of his last two efforts. The four-year-old gelding has failed to beat a rival home when finishing last at Chelmsford and here two starts ago. It must be said however, those efforts came in higher grades and the return to Class 6 company is sure to suit.
His last win came at Chelmsford three starts ago in the same grade as this race. Winning by a head, that victory came off a mark of 59. Having been slapped with a 5lb rise by the handicapper, it’s easy to see why he didn’t fair so well when up in class. Now just 3lb higher than when last winning, a return to form could well be on the cards.
Wolverhampton is a familiar track to the horse as he has had 20 starts here. Three of those have resulted in victory and a further four were placed efforts. It’s also worth noting that Red Walls scored over course and distance in Class 5 company off a mark of 60 as recently as April.
With the handicapper relenting slightly and the drop down in class, it’s easy to see why this gamble is taking place. You certainly wouldn’t want to rule out a return to the winners’ enclosure for this horse and there will be plenty of eyes on Wolverhampton at 4.20.
