Irish trainer Dick Donohue is local to Gowran and he has two runners at the County Kilkenny track on Wednesday. Both have been the subject of sustained market support throughout the morning. The first of his two runners was available at 50-1 on Monday evening and is currently best price 12-1. His other runner is also well backed, being slashed into 10-1 from 25-1.
It’s also worth noting that both runners belong to the same owner so it’s possible that they have got involved. The useful Dylan Browne McMonagle is set to take the ride on one and Robbie Colgan on the other. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Hale Bopp (12-1, bet365) has been relatively unsupported in six starts for this yard so it could be significant that the money has come here. He made his debut for this yard off a mark of 84 in December and his turf mark has fallen to 67. Donohoe’s charge was an impressive winner off 85 at Naas for Ger Lyons as recently as May 2022, which certainly makes this an intriguing mark. This horse has the ability to get involved here, provided he can return to form.
Bucky Larson (15-2, Paddy Power) has struggled since switching to the Donohoe yard but the handicapper is responding accordingly. His last win came by an impressive margin in a Dundalk claimer for Ger Lyons and he has been dropped 15lb in six starts for his current yard. This horse did win a handicap at Naas off 91 back in July 2021 and you would have to think he has fallen down the weights enough to be of interest here. Currently rated 5lb lower than when finishing down the field at Dundalk in March, perhaps he’ll be refreshed after a break.
