There’s a gamble underway at Perth on Thursday and the horse’s price has been steadily declining throughout the morning. One runner was as big as 9-1 last night and currently only one firm are holding firm at 11-2. Most of the betting companies have slashed the odds to 9-2 or 4-1. The market can be informative and there seems to be plenty of people keeping an eye on this one. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Golden Chancer (11-2, bet365) is the subject of Thursday’s big gamble. Daragh Bourke’s eight-year-old gelding is currently sliding down the weights after a few disappointing performances. Having been rated 90 as recently as April, he races off an 8lb lower mark here.
There is a positive to this decline in the weights as he now finds himself on a mark which is 5lb lower than his last winning one. As he won off 87 in September one would hope he has it in him to run a big race here and it seems like the market agrees.
However, there is plenty for the gelding to overcome in this race. It’s not easy to win when so badly out of form as confidence must be low. Another issue is the trip here as his last win came over 3m3f at Sedgefield so the 2m4f here appears to be on the sharp side.
The market confidence is coming from somewhere and there will undoubtedly be plenty of people keeping an eager eye on how this plays out.
