Gamble alert: Oisin Murphy ride backed into 14-1 from 50-1 at Kempton 🚨

There’s a substantial gamble underway at Kempton on Wednesday morning. Oisin Murphy’s mount in the penultimate race on the card was available at 50-1 on Tuesday evening. 5.05 Kempton

Oman is the subject of the gamble and he runs in the two-mile handicap at 5.05. Ian Williams’ charge made his debut for this yard at Lingfield last time out. Going off at 66-1, no one expected a big run and the market was right as he finished last of 10 and was beaten by 37 lengths.

The fact that there has been some money for him today does make things interesting. Oisin Murphy is a notable jockey booking and has ridden nine winners in the last fortnight.

It seems as if Oman’s previous trainers haven’t been sure what to do with him lately, having tried middle-distances, staying trips and even hurdles. His final run for Alan King was a bit better, finishing a four-length fifth at Lingfield over 1m4f. The handicapper is beginning to relent and has dropped him down to a mark of 85.

Significant improvement will be required and he’ll also need to prove that this trip suits, having finished last on his sole Flat start at this distance. It’s difficult to ignore the money coming for an Ian Williams horse as it’s often significant. This looks like a situation to keep an eye on throughout the day.
