Gamble alert: Michael O’Callaghan’s Curragh debutant smashed into 3-1 from 16-1 📉

Irish racing is no stranger to a big gamble or two and it’s no different on Sunday. Michael O’Callaghan runs a debutant at the Curragh which has been the subject of a significant move. Having been available at 16-1 on Saturday evening, the horse’s price has capitulated to 3-1. It could be significant that the money has come in for this horse despite the fact that he hasn’t seen the racetrack yet. 1.25 Curragh

Djockovic (3-1, bet365) cost €65,000 at the sales so his owner/trainer will be hoping that he’s capable of winning some of that back. There’s plenty of stamina in his pedigree as his grand dam has provided hurdles winners. He may therefore need further in time but the 7f trip here seems like a fair starting point. Kodiac is the sire which should provide the turn of foot necessary to win over this sort of distance.

Michael O’Callaghan should be in confident mood after his Group 2 success in the Beresford Stakes on Saturday which proves his juveniles are capable of getting the job done. The trainer has been in fantastic form in the last fortnight with an impressive strike-rate of 36 per cent. His debutant colt will be looking to improve that and provide him with his fifth winner in the last 14 days.

Leigh Roche takes the ride and he has also been in strong form lately with a 20 per cent strike-rate. Djockovic will need to overcome some strong competition on debut but the substantial market support suggests there’s real confidence he can break his maiden tag at the first time of asking.
