It’s always a good idea to keep a close eye on the markets as plenty can be learnt from doing so. Although there are never any guarantees in this game, it can give us a strong sense of the level of confidence behind a horse. One runner at Huntingdon on Monday is the subject of sustained market support which has caused its price to capitulate. The horse in question was available at 40-1 on Sunday evening but the best available price at time of writing is just 8-1. Jacks Touch is a lightly raced eight-year-old that has had just six starts over hurdles. She made her debut over timber at Fairyhouse for Leonard Whitmore in March 2021, finishing second. This horse made the move to Sarah Humphrey’s yard and filled the same spot on debut for her new stable at Market Rasen back in November.
Things perhaps haven’t gone to plan for her since but she was a reasonable sixth on handicap debut here in January. The winner of that race has won again since, providing a boost to the form. She was very disappointing at Warwick when last seen but the handicapper has responded accordingly.
On the evidence of her first couple of starts, she should be capable of winning races at this level. The mare also showed enough on handicap debut to suggest she has some ability. Racing off a mark of 100 here, this could be a competitive rating. Obviously she’ll need to improve on her last couple of starts but that’s certainly not out of the question on chase debut.
