Gamble alert: Hexham runner smashed into 8-1 from 25-1 on Wednesday 🚨

There’s a bit of a move going on in Hexham‘s first race of the day on Wednesday. One runner has seen its price collapse since Tuesday night. The horse in question was available at a massive 25-1 the previous evening but sustained market support has caused it’s price to collapse. Currently, the best available price for the horse is 8-1. A price of 25-1 would suggest it could be hard for the horse to win but the strength of the support indicates some confidence from somewhere. 12.23 Hexham

Strike Of Lightning (8-1, bet365) is the horse in question and connections will be hoping he lives up to his name. It’s difficult to make a case for him on the evidence of his form so far. He is lightly raced however and we probably haven’t seen the best of him yet.

Starting his career in Ireland, he was second in a point-to-point before finishing a 20-length third to the promising Minella Cocooner in a Kilbeggan bumper. He then switched hands and George Bewley is his current trainer. With just six hurdles starts to his name, there could be more to come.

Perhaps his best effort came over 2m1f at Carlisle. The stiff nature of the track there would suggest that perhaps going up to 2m4f for the first time over hurdles will suit. His only attempt at this trip came over fences and he unseated his rider at the ninth fence. That aforementioned Carlisle effort came off a mark of 90 and his current rating is 6lb lower. Therefore, there is a case to be made for a big run from the gelding.
