Gamble alert: Gordon Elliott runner backed into 10-1 from 25-1 at Downpatrick 🚨

Ireland loves a gamble and there’s yet another taking place at Downpatrick on Sunday. One runner was available at 25-1 on Saturday evening and sustained market support has seen its price slashed on Sunday morning. The horse in question is now available at just 10-1, with most bookmakers offering single-figure odds. 2.15 Downpatrick

Fruit Blossom has had just five starts over hurdles so far. The last of those came at Thurles and it was a much improved effort. Finishing third, she stayed on well on the run-in, despite not having the pace to challenge the first two. This is a stark contrast to her previous hurdles starts where she had been beaten comfortably and shown little. There was plenty to like about that effort and she may well have turned a corner. The handicapper dropped her a further 2lb for that run, which only helps her chances upon returning to handicaps.

She makes her second handicap start off a mark of 95 here and should find plenty of improvement in this sphere. This mark looks pretty reasonable, especially if she can build on her latest effort. The market confidence behind this horse suggests she is expected to put in a big performance here. If anyone is capable of inspiring some progression from this mare, it would be Gordon Elliott. It’ll be interesting to see how this fascinating gamble plays out.
