Gamble alert: Dan Skelton runner backed from 10/1 into 15/8 at Newbury

2.10 Newbury

Running in the 2m3f novices’ handicap hurdle, Dan Skelton’s runner Kartoon And Co has been smashed off the boards all morning. Backed from a high of 10/1 all the way into 15/8 in places, the yard are clearly expecting a huge from from their horse today.

Skelton can do no wrong at present. He has been winning big handicaps and Grade 1s left, right and centre the last few weeks and everything he does seems to turn to gold at the moment. He really is a masterful trainer and when the money is down, they seldom leave it behind.

Kartoon And Co won over hurdles on debut at Stratford in October, and has run well in defeat since. He was backed off the boards for his handicap debut at Sandown this month, but jockey Harry Skelton looking back will probably be disappointed with the ride.

He allowed Spiced Rum to get a soft time of things on the front end late on in the race and was unable to mow down the winner. The step up in trip will be a massive help to his chances today as he was finishing with a lot of running left and it’s no shock to see the money come.
