Gamble alert: Anthony Charlton runner backed into 10-1 from 33-1 at Wincanton

There’s a rather topical gamble underway at Wincanton on Thursday as the man who took over the training of Milton Harris’ horses has a runner which is the subject of sustained market support. The horse in question was as big as 33-1 on Wednesday evening and is a general 10-1 chance at time of writing. This is certainly newsworthy and we’ll take a detailed look at the horse’s chances. Northern Symphonie goes in the bumper, which is the concluding race on the card. She has had two starts so far and showed some promise when finishing second in a fair bumper at Newbury on her debut back in December, despite having no chance against the very impressive winner. It’s fair to say her jockey gave her plenty to do that day and she kept on very well from rather far back to take second upon entering the final half-a-furlong.

With this in mind, her rather disappointing effort in a Class 2 event at Warwick last time out is more than a little perplexing. Charlton’s four-year-old was beaten by a wide margin and could only manage to finish seventh. She never looked dangerous that day and was always towards the rear of the field.

Her pedigree suggests she should be up to winning a bumper and she’s related to several winners on the Flat. If this filly can build on that first start, a big run could be on the cards here, but she will need to leave her latest effort far behind her.
