We’ve got a busy day ahead of us on Friday, with eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland, so we’ve selected some interesting angles to consider. Scottish trainer Jim Goldie is sending just one runner on the long trip down to Ascot and Fern O’Brien bids to extend her unbeaten record at Uttoxeter so far this season, with just one ride there. It’s an 808-mile round trip from Jim Goldie’s Lanarkshire base to Ascot and he will be represented by one runner at the track on Friday. Connections won’t want to go home empty-handed and it’s definitely notable that top jockey Billy Loughnane has been booked to ride the horse in question.
Dandy Magic was a winner off this mark at Newcastle in November and that form suggests that the daughter of Dandy Man has every chance. She hasn’t had too many previous runs over the minimum trip but having won over 5f last term, the distance shouldn’t be a problem for her here.
Uttoxeter has been a happy hunting ground for jockey Fern O’Brien so far this season, as both of her previous rides at the track managed to get the job done. She will be looking to make it 3/3 with her sole ride there on Friday so we’ve assessed the horse’s chances.
Mistral Blue was one of O’Brien’s two precious winners this season, as she landed a course and distance handicap by a comfortable margin last month. It’s hard to argue with a 5lb rise off the back of that success and a follow up success could well be on the cards.
Shark Hanlon sends Seeitoldya over to Uttoxeter, in the same race as Mistral Blue, and Paddy Hanlon also heads over to take the ride. This Irish pointer winner is yet to get off the mark under rules but his fourth off 2lb higher at Cork last summer suggests he’s capable of making the frame.
