Frankie Dettori bids for monster 1,689-1 Racing League treble at Doncaster

Frankie Dettori who rides for the Newmarket Red team in the Racing League currently lead the competition after week one at Newcastle. Dettori is booked for three rides at Doncaster Racecourse on Thursday night and if all three win it will pay very handsomely. The top class Italian rider is very selective with his rides these days so when he is booked for a ride it is usually trying very hard. Let’s take a look at the three horses in question in more detail below.

5.42 Doncaster

Dettori’s first ride is aboard the Robert Cowell runner Autumn Flight in the 5f sprint. The Dandy Man gelding won a pair of handicaps on the All-Weather at Chelmsford at the start of his season. He has run well in defeat since, posting two runner-up finishes in his last two starts at Catterick and Yarmouth. Frankie might bring out some more improvement.

It will be a bit of a wait for Dettori before he sits on his second ride of the night. He will ride the John & Thady Gosden-trained Sir Edward Elgar who has failed to set the world alight since winner at Lingfield in January. The No Nay Never colt is still lightly raced and is in top hands so it would be silly to rule out a massive run.

7.53 Doncaster

Again riding for his boss, Dettori will this time ride Pitcher’s Point in the Newmarket Red colours. The US-bred runner won a pair of handicaps over this distance on the All-Weather last year but has not progressed on from that. The four-year-old is off a workable mark though and is trained by a masterful yard.
