The going at Leicester for Tuesday’s six-race card is currently soft and with more rain expected on Monday, ground conditions are unlikely to get any better by the time the action kicks off. We’ve picked out four mud lovers that are likely to enjoy the testing underfoot conditions to consider.
Star of Rory has finished in the first three in seven out of 10 starts in testing conditions (soft or heavy). This includes three victories which have all come over hurdles. His chase mark is 10lb lower than his last winning hurdles mark which suggests that he can win off this mark if he can get used to the larger obstacles.
Astra Via has won or placed in three of her five starts on soft ground. If she puts up the level of performance which she showed when finishing second at Sedgefield off this mark last week, that should be enough for her to get her head in front here. This event looks easier to win back in mares only company and she should go well.
Oscars Leader is running under a 7lb penalty as a consequence of his victory at Newcastle last time out. That race was much better than this event and despite the narrow margin of his victory, the first and second were nine lengths clear of the third. He has placed in 11 out of 19 starts in testing conditions. This includes three wins and this horse has been much improved by the switch to fences.
I’m Wiser Now is yet to be out of the first three in five starts under rules on soft ground. This includes a comfortable win at Stratford last March. He will have come on for his seasonal reappearance run in a point-to-point earlier this month and should go well with top amateur James King doing the steering.
