It’s Day 2 of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown on Sunday. There’s plenty of captivating handicap action on offer. With this in mind, we’ve selected three outsiders at gargantuan prices that could interest the each-way players. With eight Grade 1 contests taking place across the two days, the handicaps can be forgotten. We’re here to ensure that doesn’t happen. The prices are accurate at time of writing and are liable to change. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Tullypole Annie (22-1 generally) has been largely consistent and progressive over hurdles. She won here on Boxing Day at a big price and looks likely to go off at similar odds. You can’t help but feel she may have been underestimated last time and it would be dangerous to do so again. Clearly still improving, it would be no surprise if there’s a little more left to come.
Top Ville Ben (25-1, bet365) is on the very short list of British invaders at this meeting. He had a good campaign over hurdles last season, winning at Lingfield and finishing second in a Grade 2 at Haydock on testing ground. It has been a while since he won over fences; landing the Rowland Merrick off 154 in 2019. This makes his current mark particularly appealing and if he can bounce back after a poor effort last time, is entitled to be in the mix here.
An Epic Song (40-1, generally) is very lightly raced and could be fairly unexposed. Martin Brassil’s charge won easily at Punchestown in December 2021, by a margin of six-and-a-half lengths. Injury forced him off the track for 338 days before finishing down the field at Fairyhouse in December. It’s reasonable to expect significant improvement from that run and he should be considerably closer here off a 1lb lower mark. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time Brassil has pulled off shock result in a big handicap.
