Dazzling Doyle lands first Group success as Dame Malliot scores at Newmarket!

Dame Malliot

Hollie Doyle has turned into a fan favourite over the last year, wowing the racing public with her incredible talent. That talent is seemingly limitless as Doyle continued her jaw-dropping progress to take the biggest win of her career thus far, claiming Group 2 honours aboard the Ed Vaughan trained Dame Malliot in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket.

Gutsy partnership not to be denied

The way Doyle claimed her first group race couldn’t have been more fitting, as the partnership had to really dig in to claim a success that didn’t look all that likely from the gates. Winning a Listed race over course and distance around twelve months ago, Dame Malliot came with a storming late run on that occasion, but Doyle was unable to employ the same tactics here.

Dame Malliot refused to settle in the early stages and Doyle made the crucial mid-race decision to allow the long-striding filly to go forward. That would prove to be the race-winning move, although it didn’t look so three furlongs from home. Doyle was headed at that point and the horse looked to be struggling to go with Communique, but the partnership was not to be denied and galvanised by Doyle, she found extra to power clear in the closing stages.

Hollie Doyle joins the Group

Doyle has tasted plenty of success in the past few years, but this was her biggest one yet. Just a month on from her maiden Royal Ascot winner aboard Scarlett Dragon in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes, Doyle has now joined the rank of jockeys who have tasted success at group level.

Prior to her success at Newmarket, she had won five races at Listed level and such is her rapidly improving profile, that it will come as a shock to no one that she has quickly added a group success to her ever-growing CV.

Hollie Doyle’s biggest wins to date:

  • 2017 Upavon Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) – Billesdon Bess
  • 2018 Prix Zeddaan (Listed) – The Weatherman
  • 2019 Hever Stakes (Listed) – Gorgeous Noora
  • 2019 Prix Hampton (Listed) – Shades Of Blue
  • 2019 Aphrodite Stakes (Listed) – Dame Malliot
  • 2020 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes (Group 2) – Dame Malliot

Further success awaits

It’s now full steam ahead for Hollie, who has plenty of rides at Bath tomorrow evening, with five of her seven rides at the venue being single-figure prices. In-form Ice Ice Lady looks to be her best chance on the card, as she looks to follow up under a penalty after an impressive victory at Yarmouth last week.
