Danny Mullins’ first ever ride at Perth on Wednesday is for Willie and the horse is 14/1

Danny Mullins

At the time of writing this article, just over £50,000 separates Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton in the showdown for the British Jump Trainers’ Championship, but Mullins is throwing the kitchen sink at Britain between now and Saturday and could win a nice pot at Perth on Wednesday.

Interestingly, Danny Mullins will have his first ever ride at Perth on the day and there could be a little bit of value in this horse as Paul Townend is on another in the same race! Let’s take a closer look at it now.

Townend will take the ride on Kiss Will while Rachael Blackmore is aboard Ballygunner Castle, but the current 14/1 about Danny’s ride You Oughta Know might not last overnight. The son of Beat Hollow disappointed in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse earlier in the month, finishing 15 lengths behind Ballygunner Castle, but the ground was too quick for him on the day and he could never get involved.

Hopefully the ground doesn’t dry out too much at Perth but this boy bolted up in a Punchestown maiden hurdle over the extended 2m in December and he’s a dual bumper winner who finished second in a Grade 2 Leopardstown bumper with some classy horses in behind.

The step up to this sort of trip for the first time could unlock some major improvement out of You Oughta Know, who holds a couple of Grade 1 entries for the Punchestown festival next week. As with all Mullins’ horses, many of his outsiders do win and you’d imagine Danny would at least have second choice over Rachael so this horse certainly does look overpriced.
