Al Boum Photo comes to life around Prestbury Park and it would be very foolish to write Mullins’ sole Gold Cup winner off. He was sent off favourite for the race last year but he just wasn’t at the top of his game on the day. Still though, he finished third behind Minella Indo and A Plus Tard, yet he is three or four times the price of the latter this year. That may well turn out to be justified as Al Boum Photo is now a 10-year-old so is getting no younger. However, he had a lovely prep for the race again at Tramore and although it’s a big ask to win it at his age, Cool Dawn did it in 1998 so who knows!
