Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum pumps a lot of money into horse racing and is a big owner in the game. He has a terrific record with his Epsom runners in recent years and has two interesting runners on Saturday.

In the last five years, he has sent 11 runners to Epsom Racecourse and five have won. That is an incredible return for any owner so his runners are at the very last worth a second look on Saturday.

One of his runners will be running in the Derby so it could turn out to be a special day for the man. We will take a closer look at both of his runners below.

3.10 Epsom

Simon & Ed Crisford’s Century Dream is bidding to win this race for the third time and has to be respected dropping down in grade. However, Prince Eiji is also an intriguing runner for the Sheikh. The Roger Varian-trained gelding has not won since 2018 but was narrowly denied by Oh This Is Us in Listed company at Ascot in April. Seen to best effect on quick ground, the conditions will be in his favour and with the cobwebs blown away, he looks sure to fight out the finish.

4.30 Epsom

Third Realm is certainly bred to win a Derby, that is for sure. He is by the famous winner of the race, Sea The Stars, and is not to be underestimated even though the bookies think he is an unlikely winner. The colt won the Listed Derby Trial at Lingfield last month, doing best work at the finish and looks like this test will suit him down to the ground.
