Classic Big-race Verdict: 50-1 and 16-1 tips for the Doncaster St Leger

‘There is a bucket-load of stamina in his pedigree’

Hurricane Lane is the class horse in the race and if he stays plus handles the quicker ground, then everything else will be playing for second. However, this is a lovely race for an each-way bet and I really like the place chances of Fernando Vichi (50-1) who looks way too big. There is a bucket-load of stamina in his pedigree and he ran very well on his first start over this trip behind the re-opposing Interpretation last time out. He travelled alongside the winner three furlongs out and looked like he was going to go and win the race, but the winner found plenty. Nonetheless, there could be more to come from Donnacha O’Brien’s son of Australia and the bookmakers have completely underestimated his chance. World class rider Oisin Murphy has also been booked for the ride which can only be a major positive. – Adrian Wall

‘He proved his stamina for this trip’

There is little doubt that Hurricane Lane is the one to beat but at the current odds over a new trip and on quicker ground, he makes limited betting appeal. An alternative at an each way price looks the way to go. With just four starts in his life, Interpretation is the least exposed of these, along with Scope. He proved his stamina for this trip at Leopardstown last time out, with his RPR’s taking a big jump forward with every start. He will need to do that once more to take the step up in class in his stride but his profile suggests that he can do exactly that to make it win seven in this race for Aidan O’Brien. – Matthew Newman
