Defi Du Seuil and Barry Geraghty overcoming Politologue and Harry Cobden in the Shloer Chase Cheltenham 17/11/19

The final day of the November Meeting is on Sunday, with a six-race card bringing down the curtain on three days of fantastic racing. The feature contest is the competitive Greatwood Hurdle, a Grade 3 Handicap over the two-mile distance.

The supporting cast includes the Grade 2 Shloer Chase and the Supreme Trial, which will give us some big Festival clues. We’ll have horse racing tips and ITV Racing tips throughout the card.

All the action can be watched on RacingTV, with the service showing all seven races. ITV will have coverage of four races for those wanting a terrestrial option.

Cheltenham Tips & Odds

The opening contest on ITV is the Planteur At Chapel Stud Handicap Chase, an extremely competitive Grade 3 handicap over the 3m 3f distance. This will be quite the test and Discorama is the one who should relish it the most. Paul Nolan’s charge finished third in last year’s Ultima at the Festival off a two-pound lower rating. He was beaten a short-head on return at Galway by 2020 Kim Muir winner Milan Native and is entitled to come on for the run. He loves it at Cheltenham and he has stamina in droves, which will make him tough to beat off an attractive rating.

Unbeaten in a pair of runs at Prestbury Park, Put The Kettle On bids to complete a Cheltenham hat-trick for Henry De Bromhead. Landing the Arkle Trial here last November, she came back to the Festival to land the real deal. She has run to an extremely high level of form and she clearly loves this venue. She receives plenty of weight from both Defi Du Seuil and Rogue Vif, which makes her the one to beat under Aidan Coleman.

The terrestrial action finishes with the Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle, in which Third Time Lucky is a warm order. That’s no surprise, given his two hurdling efforts to date. A very smart bumper horse, he’s converted that ability over timber, winning easily under a penalty at Wetherby last time. Further progress should be forthcoming and the recent form of Dan Skelton gives another welcome boost to his chances.

Cheltenham Odds for today’s feature race

Another hugely competitive renewal of the Greatwood looks to be in the grasp of Alan King and Edwardstone. A very smart novice last term, he won two of his four starts. He went down by a neck in a Grade 2 at Haydock back in January before a fair sixth in the Supreme on his most recent outing.

He goes handicapping off a competitive rating and he goes well fresh. He’ll get a strong pace to aim at and this could be a very big season for this promising six-year-old.

Cheltenham Stats and Trends

  • Paul Nicholls has trained three of the last five winners of the mallardjewellers.com Novices’ Chase
  • Colin Tizzard has claimed two of the last four renewals of the Planteur At Chapel Stud Handicap Chase
  • Just three of the last 10 renewals of the Greatwood have gone to a horse at single-figure odds

Paul Nicholls has a superb recent record in the opening mallardjewellers.com Novices’ Chase and Solider Of Love will bid to continue that sequence.

The second race of the afternoon, the Planteur At Chapel Stud Handicap Chase, has gone the way of Colin Tizzard in two of the last four years. His 2020 representative, West Approach, looks to build on a recent course second.

The Greatwood has not been a good race for favourites this decade, so don’t be afraid to go for bigger odds in the feature contest.
