Al Boum Photo to place (25/1)

Winning the last two renewals of the Gold Cup, Al Boum Photo sits imperiously atop the staying division. Winning the 2019 renewal in comfortable fashion, he proved he could tough it out with a gutsy success twelve months ago. Willie Mullins has unlocked the key to his star with light preparation for the big race, with just one warm-up at Tramore prior to his Gold Cup runs.

That winning formula has been repeated this season, romping home ahead of Acapella Bourgeois on New Year’s Day. Both on ratings and what he’s achieved in his career, he’s the one to beat. He has everything you need in a stayer: speed, stamina and the heart of a lion. The highest rated in the line-up and the consistent force, it’s hard to argue that he’s not the one to beat.

With William Hill, you can get an incredible 25-1 for Al Boum Photo reaching the top-three, which can be found below.

Champ to win (70/1)

A general 9/2 chance, Nicky Henderson’s Champ is second-favourite for the showpiece event. Few will forget his last-gasp success twelve months ago in the RSA, where he flew home to poach the prize after looking well beaten over the final fence. That success marked him out as a key Gold Cup contender, if he was able to fix up his jumping.

It’s not been a conventional prep for him, having been absent for the majority of this season. He’s run just once at Newbury, contesting the Game Spirit over two miles. Running above all expectations, he’s finished a close second, travelling exuberantly and putting in the best round of jumping in his career thus far.

This out and out test should bring out the best in him, though there will be question marks as to whether he’ll drop his head over the longer distance just a few weeks later. He also needs to prove he can jump with the same polish, but perhaps he’s turned a corner behind closed doors.

If you fancy Champ to put it all together on the biggest stage, then you can back him at a huge 70-1 with William Hill below!
