Charlie Appleby’s strike-rate at Wolverhampton was 46% in 2024 and he sends one runner

Godolphin’s premier trainer Charlie Appleby is always a trainer to follow but his strike-rate on the all-weather is particularly eye-catching in recent years. Doing noticeably well at Wolverhampton last term, his six winners from 13 runners gave him a strike-rate of 46 per cent.

Appleby is set to have his first runner of the year there on Tuesday and the horse in question cost 800,000gns. We’ve taken a detailed look at the horse and presented our Nap of the day, who also runs at Wolverhampton. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

5.30 Wolverhampton

Treasure Fleet is full-brother to a Group 3 winner, which goes some way to explaining his significant price tag. His dam won three times as a juvenile and that includes a Listed race over a mile. With that in mind, the extended mile trip here seems like a very sensible starting point.

Appleby has maintained a 35 per cent strike-rate with three-year-old runners on the all-weather over the last five years which is particularly impressive. Added to that, he’s four from 14 with three-year-old debutants at Wolverhampton.

This certainly isn’t the deepest of novice events and he’ll be expected to come out on top, provided he’s forward enough and not badly in need of the experience.

MyRacing Nap of the Day

It’s hard to look past Tiger Crusade here, as David Simcock’s eight-year-old was less than a length back in third last time out and this appears to be a much easier race. He reappears off the same mark here and a return to winning ways could be on the agenda.
