This looks set for Modern Games. The 2017 Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar saw the first six home in this race drawn one, two, eight, four, five and six. He has the inside berth as well as the natural speed to make use of it. The winner of the Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket last time out, his RPR for that Group 3 win is as high as anything in the field, the only other with a similar level is drawn wide in 14. William Buick has picked Modern News over his stablemate Albahr and with two winners in this race from just three runners, it’s a race that Charlie Appleby has a fine record in. – Matt Newman
I fully agree with Matt and see nothing bar a win for Charlie Appleby’s Modern Games. His son of Dubawi arrives here off the back of a career best in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket. Appleby’s pair of runners are drawn one and two, which is the place to be, so it should be fascinating tactically. Modern Games is a horse with a high cruising speed and will save ground the whole way round. He is likely to go on while Albahr will be coming from off the pace. I expect Modern Games to track Dakota Gold around and pick him off in the closing stages. – Adrian Wall
On paper, there is a severe lack of pace in this race, and Dakota Gold could steal this off the front from a good draw in post three. Danny Gargan’s charge is a perfect two from two, graduating at Saratoga prior to his runaway victory in the Nownownow at Monmouth in September. He did things that hard way from off the pace that day, but he doesn’t lack pace and he raced on the shoulder of the leader for his debut win. He’s totally unexposed, possesses a devastating turn of foot, and he’s a very strong candidate at each-way odds. – Owen Goulding
