Simply getting a horse to the races these days is a costly endeavour, even when heading to more local tracks. It could be significant then that Newmarket-based trainer Ben Brookhouse is set to send two runners all the way up to Kelso on Monday.
A 624-mile round trip, connections won’t want to come home empty handed. Brookhouse has never had a runner at Kelso before and it’s certainly interesting that he sends two all that way. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Diamond Dealer absolutely bolted up in a maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter on good ground back in October. He made all the running and pulled further and further clear, eventually going on to score by 26 lengths, whilst the runner-up boosted the form by winning next time.
Truth be told he’s been a little disappointing since with that in mind but it was a much better display when runner-up in handicap company at Doncaster last time. More will be needed off a 2lb higher mark here but the step up in trip might help and he’s entitled to be in the mix once again.
Golden Whirl has plenty to find on the evidence of his underwhelming display at Market Rasen on debut. One thing in his favour is that he appeared to be in need of the experience and if that is the case, we can expect better now. Far too keen in the early stages, he also got outpaced and finished last of five.
There’s plenty of speed in his Flat-dominant pedigree so you would imagine he should be well equipped to compete in bumpers. This son of Golden Horn is out of a 5f winner and perhaps the penny has now dropped for Brookhouse’s four-year-old.
