2.25 Ayr

A field of 25 runners are set to go to post for another competitive renewal of the Ayr Silver Cup, but it is a horse with a high draw right out in stall 24 who has attracted most of the support overnight and into this morning. Adrian Keatley’s Wobwobwob has been backed like a horse who is really fancied today, so let’s take a closer look at his credentials.

This son of Prince Of Lir finished second in a good Goodwood handicap on heavy ground over 7f off a mark of 85 in August. He followed that up with another fine effort when third in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon over 6f on good ground, probably in need of a slightly stiffer test.

Wobwobwob’s mark remains unchanged off the back of that run, and now Hollie Doyle has been booked to ride the gelding which could be significant. The horse won’t mind what ground he runs on and is very versatile, while it also usually pays to have a middle to high draw in this race, although that depends on the day. He should have a nice pitch by the rail and should get a nice lead into the race. He must have every chance in this.
